Getting Kids to Hydrate

Home / News / Getting Kids to Hydrate

From time to time, children can be a little difficult, especially when it comes to hydration. Many kids will try to opt out of water in favor of something much more sugary, but less in hydration potential. In spite of this, we have a few creative ways to get your kids to drink more water, and to get them to love it at the same time. Read on to learn more!

Out of all the complaints that kids have about water, one of the biggest ones is that it is bland compared to other beverages. They are absolutely right about this one—water does not pack the same punch a can of soda has—but there is no reason to keep water that way. Try throwing in some fruit into the water to make it a little more appetizing, and watch as the kids run over in delight to try the new thing you made. Not only that, but kids may also say that water isn’t fun. Carbonated drinks have the added effect because they are bubbly—something that kids love. However, you can keep the fun with water going by investing in a special cup that your kid will love. When you give it to them, throw in the caveat that only water is allowed in that cup. In no time, you may find that you child is drinking a whole lot more water, all thanks to being able to use their new favorite toy!

Finally, introducing a game system is another great way for your kids to drink more water. Set up a dry-erase board on the refrigerator, and tell your kids to tally how many cups of water they drink throughout the day. Put yourself on there, and make it a family challenge to drink the most water during the day. Not only will this inspire the competitive spirit in your kids, but it will also help you keep up on your hydration as well!

Kids may not grab a water as their first choice, but overtime you can instill good decisions that will make them more apt to do so in the future. All it takes is a little intuition, and you are set to go.
