5-24-16Memorial Day Weekend is here, and with that, the unofficial start of summer is within sight!  Days on the beach, nights out at the campfire, and the smell of good barbecue are all just within reach.  However, with the amenities of summer comes the heat, which is a blessing for some and a curse for others.  Regardless of your opinion on the warmer weather, hot temperatures have a tendency to dehydrate you.  So, in an effort to spare you from the dehydration this summer, we’ve provided a few tips on how to keep hydrated in the heat.

Like all else, the key to good hydration is a constant supply of water.  Little sips every now and then, even when you don’t feel incredibly thirsty, are all tantamount to good hydration.  Just remember to increase your frequency of sipping when the temperature increases, as you’ll sweat out the water faster than in cold weather.

Another key to hydration in the summer is to avoid overly sugary beverages, like soda, and stick to clear, light beverages like water or sports drinks.  The latter are easier for your body to absorb, with water being the quickest, and will go straight to your bloodstream, making you hydrated.  On the other hand, the former will take longer to break down due to their complex sugars, and will actually dehydrate you further.  This does not mean that you cannot enjoy a soda on a summer day, just do it in moderation.  Life, after-all, is a balance.
