Tap Water Tapestry

9-27-16In our most recently published article, we defined the true nature of spring water, and how it is stacked against the competition.  This week, we would like to turn the focus towards tap water, explain to you what it is, and how it stacks up against other forms of water.

Tap water is, well, water that comes from the tap.  All kidding aside, tap water is water that has been purified, generally by the government, and distributed through municipal pipes for consumption.  The original source of this water can vary, as sometime it will come from springs, streams, sewage, or in some parts of the country, from the ocean itself.  Regardless of where it comes from, tap water is subjected to a rigorous filtration process, using many harsh chemicals, to purify.

As a general rule of thumb, tap water is safe to drink, but various complications can arise due to chemicals in the filtration process and the pipes that it has been delivered in.  The most recent and notable example of tap water gone astray is the Flint Water Crisis of earlier this year, which rendered drinking water that was deadly to many people.

In addition to this, a recent study done by Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health showed that chemicals which are linked to cancer and other health problems have rose above federal recommended levels in the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and California.

These new results can be a cause for concern for many people, but there are better alternatives to tap water.  Unlike sewage, fresh spring water does not have to be chemically filtered to drink, as nature does all the work.
