Ah finals week, the moment of truth for many college students around the country. While we are sure that countless students will be putting the pen to paper for the last time in their courses of the semester, we know that it can be an incredibly stressful time. However, staying hydrated can be a major factor in helping you get through the week ahead, and can even help you out on your exams!
We all know that proper hydration is linked to less stress (feel free to check back on some of our earlier articles for more information on that) but hydration can also play an important factor in getting higher marks on exams. A study done in 2012 by two London universities found that out of a group of 447 psychology students, those who brought a water bottle to the exam performed better, by an average of 5%. This may not seem like a lot, but on an exam that can weigh for over 50% of your overall grade, it can be the difference between a “B” and an “A”.
Sure, this all sounds well and good, but how can you possibly find time to hydrate yourself with so much work to do? You may be surprised to find that the answer is really quite simple. All you need to do is to pace yourself and drink at regular intervals (perhaps take a sip after each page turn or each paragraph written) and you’ll be good to go. Not only that, but be sure to take a bottle of water with you wherever you go, as it could just be the thing to help you get through the week.
Finals week is stressful, but you do not have to let it impact your grade. Staying hydrated is the best way to be this time of year, we guarantee it,
Best of luck on all of your exams!
