Cutting Back Soda

Soda, like many other things in life, are great in small quantities, but constantly drinking it can have an adverse effect on not only your waistline, but also your health.  Thanks to all of the additives and sugars, soda does no good at hydrating the human body.  If you are looking for a change, or want to help someone else cut the soda out of their life and switch over to healthy, plentiful water, then read on, as we have a few tips on how to cut the sugary addiction.

When it comes to quitting any sort of habit or diet choice, your biggest ally (and foe) is your mentality.  Just like the Little Engine Who Could, if you think you can, you definitely can.  On the other hand, if you are not 100% mentally committed to stopping the soda craze, then you will have a much more difficult time at changing.  Once you have the mental end sorted out, quitting soda is a whole lot easier.

There are two main ways that you can slowly cut the soda back: dilution and rationing.  If you would like to go the dilution route, start by adding in water, such as sparkling water, to each can of soda that you drink.  Work it so every week or so, you have more and more water, and as a result, less soda.  By adding in the water, you are drinking less of the additives and sugars, while still retaining the taste and fulfillment that your body is used to.  Alternatively, you can choose to take up rationing, by allotting yourself less and less soda every week.  Say you normally drink 30 ounces of soda a day.  Start by cutting back to where you’re only drinking 15 ounces a day, then to 5 ounces, and then to 5 ounces every other day.  Soon enough, either you will reach the point where soda no longer has an impact on you, or where you’ll just forget about it all together.

However, no matter what route you go, we highly recommend drinking water every step of the way.  By keeping a steady water intake, your body will stay hydrated, and even out some of the harmful effects on soda, making you a much healthier, and happier person in the process.

And remember, enjoying a soda every now and then is perfectly normal, but when it becomes your main source of fluid throughout the day is when it can become a health concern.
